Kilmarnock failed in a last gasp bid to sign Rangers' Bob Malcolm on a year long loan.

The defender had lost his place in Alex McLeish's plans after the signings of Marvin Andrews and Jean Alain Boumsong, but preferred to stay and fight for a starting slot.

"We heard he might be interested in first team football," said Dave MacKinnon, "but he chose not to come."

Killie are likely to offer a deal to Simon Ford, a free agent after being releasd by Grimsby Town, who can offer cover in a variety of defensive positions.
