KILMARNOCK 4 STIRLING ALBION 1

Killie secured safe passage into the second round of the CIS Cup after finally over-running Secnd Division Albion. Second half goals from Danny Invincibile, Gary Wales and Paul di Giacomo added to Rhian Dodds's first half equaliser for Killie and keeps the positive momentum going in the new season.

In true Killie style though, it wasn't all plain sailing as they had to recover from a brilliantly executed-but freakish- opening goal from former Ayr United winger Steven Boyack.

The first ten minutes were eventless, but that suddenly changed when Ala Combe miscued a left-footed clearance from the outside edge of is penalty area along the ground. The ball reached Boyack 45 yards from goal and, as the keeper frantically scrambled to get back into position, he lofted the ball sweetly high into the far corner to give the part-timers the lead.

The keeper replicated his mistake in the 18th minute, but Stewart Devine couldn't demonstrate Boyack's composure and his shot sailed over the bar.

Kilmarnock remained calm and continued to pass the ball well, but although they forced several corners, they failed to trouble Miles Hogarth in the Stirling goal.

The natived were getting restles as half-time approached, but Peter Leven produced a perfect first time pass in the 42nd minute which allowed Rhian Dodds to beat the offside trap and he comfortably beat Hogarth to his left.

Jim Jefferies resisited the temptation to bring on some of his more recognised players at half-time and he was rewarded with a much improved second half performance. Danny Invincibile put Killie ahead in the 56th minute when he gathered a loose ball inside his iown halfand simply ran away from the defence before stroking the ball into the far corner.

Stirling were rarely a threat, buit they almost stunned the home crowd with an equaliser of their own in the 74th minute. Stephen Hutchison had just cme on as a substitute when he collected a long cross wide on the right of the area and sent a swerving effort which rebounded off the outside of the post.

His agony was compounded a minute later when Killie substitute Gary Wales latched on to Invincibile's pass to charge into the penalty box and shot powerfully into the net.

Paul di Giacomo came on as a late substitute to good applause from both sets of supporters after his succesful loan spell at Albion and he glanced home a header from Garry Hay's cross in injury time to comlete the victory.
