International interest in Naismith

Steven Naismith admits he was stunned when Wales made an attempt to secure his services.

The gaffer told me Wales had been in touch and wanted me to go to one of their training camps. It never entered my head to play for Wales. I’m Scottish through-and-through and I’m staying with Scotland.

My target is to move into the U21 squad, hopefully after we have played in the European Championship finals

Steven has never set foot on Welsh soil but qualifies to play through his father, David, who was born in Wales but left as a baby.

Wales must have done their homework, though to find out about my dad. He was just born there and the family moved soon afterwards”, he said.
