Kilmarnock continued their charge towards a European place as they handed Livingston their heaviest-ever Premier League defeat.

Two goals from Andy McLaren and strikes from Peter Canero and Kris Boyd gave Kilmarnock a winning margin that did not flatter them.

Killie had a chance after only six minutes when Marvin Andrews gave the ball away in his own penalty area but Dave McEwan was off his line quickly to deny Boyd.

Two minutes later, Davide Xausa had a chance at the other end after great work by Lee Makel but he sent his ten-yard shot wide with the goal at his mercy.

But Kilmarnock always looked the more likely to open the scoring and the first goal came after 20 minutes.

Steve Fulton's free-kick to the near post caught out the Livingston defence and McLaren applied the merest of finishing touches to carry the ball past McEwan.

Livingston should have equalised moments later when Xausa had a chance in front of goal but Colin Meldrum produced an instinctive one-handed save to keep his side in front.

The miss proved costly as Kilmarnock went two up in the 34th minute. McLaren's through ball beat the offside-trap and Boyd was able to cross for Canero to head in at the back post.

It could have been three just before half time but McEwan made a brilliant save to deny Boyd.

Boyd was not to be denied and scored a spectacular third four minutes into the second half when he scored with a 25-yard shot off the underside of the crossbar.

The fourth arrived in the 70th minute when Alan Mahood's free-kick was headed down by Andrews and McLaren volleyed in his second from close range.
