Kilmarnock Survive In Tense Relegation Showdown!!

Last updated : 08 May 2010 By Killie Kingdom

Slow start to the game but as the first half went on Falkirk became the hungrier side, by showing something which our boys has not shown for some time.  There was hunger, passion and desire from the Falkirk players to score in the first half. They also played the better football whereas our boys just seemed not to want to tackle very much.  There is nothing to be scared of when tackling someone, OK well maybe apart from getting sent off but if we survive the drop it would have been worth it.

Showummni was the tough player for Frazer Wright to deal with and should have got a yellow card for his second challenge on Fright.  Defence started to show it's normal leaks and one or two players were switching off again.  Falkirk getting the most chances in this half but unfortunetly the home side did not have such luck.  The possession stats were pretty worrying and did not make good reading: Kilmarnock 20% - Falkirk 80%.

Second half much the same but Falkirk pressing for that crucial goal that would keep them up.  Two chances in particular for the Bairns both went inches wide, most of this half though saw desperate defending from the home side and any small slip-up cost of cost them their SPL status. Falkirk again have the majority of the possession but chance after chance that came to them, they failed to take advantage. After the 90 minutes were up it was announced, 5 minutes of extra time was announced, so despite Killie getting the draw that was required, they had to hang on for another 5 stressful minutes. Falkirk came so close to getting that goal the needed within that time and again desperate defending from Killie prevented it from happening.

Full time whistle went and cheers were heard from around the Theatre.  Crowds of fans from the stands ran onto the pitch, to celebrate surviving the drop and no more!

Scotland's oldest professional football club Kilmarnock Football Club Est 1869 survives for another season in the Scottish Premier League!
