David Fernandez faces a six-week wait for a operation on his cruciate knee ligaments and could be out for 10 months.

The Kilmarnock striker suffered the injury while playing against Celtic on october 29 and had exploratory surgery last week.

Fernandez had hit a rich vein of form before he was crocked and last night the killie manager Jim Jeffries said: "everything seemed to go smoothly with the exploratory op and there were no problems"

"He has had a couple of days rest and we are now expecting him back in at the club on thursday ."

"We will get over this part then we will wait and see about his ligaments."

"We will wait 6 weeks and gauge things from there with regards to the knee"
