WRIGHT AT HOME

Frazer Wright kept his place in the Killie back line after the midweek defeat at Tynecastle to make his home debut against Aberdeen. After a nervy start, a clash of heads was the unlikely catalyst for acceptance by the Rugby Park faithful.

Playing on the left side of a three man central defence, a clearly nervous Wright took no chances early on as he looked to cleared his lines, and get rid of the ball as soon as possible. But a clash of heads with Darren Mackie midway through the first half meant that he had to leave the field to have his head bandaged. When he re-appeared looking like a Gallipoli veteran he received a healthy round of applause from the Killie fans, and there is no doubt that that calmed him down and he settled into an error-free match and, even earned himself the sponsors' Man of the Match award.

The home fans' acceptance is important, but what will have a more telling impact for Wright is that he contributed well to an SPL victory, even going as far as setting up Kris Boyd for the first of his double as he did well to fight for Allan Johnston's ballooned cross to work the ball back from the goal-line.

Jim Jefferies and Billy Brown will be satisfied that their hunch in bringing Wright out of the First Division has been proved correct they can have more certainty that they have more defensive cover now than they had at the start of the season.
