Wilson catches the eye on debut

Australian defender Lindsay Wilson made his Kilmarnock debut at Rugby Park, and considering he hasn't played a first team game since May, made a very positive impression.

He looked composed, strong and quick, with one moment in the first half particularly impressive. Defending the far post to a swerving cross from te Motherwell right, the ball bounced in front of Wilson on the six yard line who had the presence of mind to stoop to chest the ball down under pressure befoe clesring his lines. There were a few hearts in mouths, but the job was done effectively.

Wilson revealed a bout of well earned cramp ended his involvement twenty minutes early, but he was satified with his outing. "I enjoyed it, it was good to get out there."

The difference between the Dutch league, where he has been playing with PSV Eindhoven, and the SPL mean a slight change to his technique. "I'll have to work on my heading. Their man got the better of me a couple of times, but I only had to hed the ball two three times a game in Holland, but here it's in the air a bit more."

Encouragingly, Wilson didn't think the Scottish game lived up to it's over-physical image. "I didn't think it was too bad out there. I had seen a couple of tackles go in in the Hearts game, and thought "Wow", but that was all right. It was fast , though."

First impressions are that JJ has made another shrewd acquisition.
