Reasons To Be Cheerful

Three goals, three points, clean sheet. It's the perfect start to the season for Killie.

The team looks confident all around the park, and there is a striker who can't miss!

The curious thing about Kevin Kyle is that, despite averaging almost a goal a game for Kilmarnock, he still insists he's not a goalscorer. "Look, I'm the target man who's supposed to hold the ball up for the other guys. They're the ones who re supposed to get the goals. I've never been a prolific scorer, not since I was in the youth team at Sunderland." Judging by the look of disbelief in his eyes, he wouldn't have been as excited then as he is now, and there are plenty of goals waiting for him in this league. "I've been on this great run of form, and to be honest, I can't see it stopping because I'm so confident and the team are playing so well, creating the chances."

The whole team played well against a poor Hamilton side, and were guilty of over-doing iot at times. With strikers like Kyle and Conor Sammon in the side, Killie are capable of scoring "easy" goals for the first time since Kris Boyd's time. Mehdi Taouil was clearly enjoying himself on Saturday, turning the Accies defenders inside and out, and he was a joy to watch; I know I found myself with a broad grin two three times, but on occasion, he just has to throw the ball into the middle and allow the strikers to challenge for the ball. Once or twice he passed up the crossing opportunity to beat his man again, and the move lost it's threat.

Kyle also revealed it was only the captain's armband that convinced him that forced him to play at all. "I've only been training since Monday, and on Wednesday I was going to tell the gaffer that I couldn't last ninety minutes, but then I thought "I'm the captain, and I'm supposed to be out there", so I woke up this morning and thought, "Nah, I'm playing.""

His striking partner Conor Sammon looks like a man re-born this season as well. His energetic performances have created panic in opposition defences and it's surely only a matter of time until the goals follow. Jim Jefferies is delighted with the form of the Irishman. He said, "Even if Fernandez and Burchill were fit today, I would have started with Sammon."

That was great news for the srtiker. "That's nice to hear. I've always believed I've got the ability to play in this league. I wasn't happy with the number of games I played last year. I went away and worked on my game and it's paying dividends now."
