LAST MAN STANDING

Kilmarnock's injury jinx has struck again ahead of Wednesday's cup replay against Hearts.

Defender Liam Fontaine suffered a blow to his nose in Saturday's league encounter at Tynecastle and it is doubtful if he has recovered sufficiently to be included while Freddy Dindeleux has suffered a reaction to his injury and requires a fitness test before kick off. Gary Locke has injured an ankle in training while Gary Wales pulled a thigh muscle this morning. Gordon Greer and Colin Nish also remain on the sidelines.

On the plus side, Simon Ford is fit again after illness and Craig Dargo played in today's reserve outing and could feature on the bench. Danny Invincibile will also come back into the starting eleven after his rest the weekend.

The prize for the winner tomorrow is a home tie against Livingston, currently stranded five points adrift at the bottom of the SPL.

"The boys know that some of them will never have a better opportunity to get to a final. We'll certainly have eleven fit players out there tomorrow. Whatever eleven we put out will certainly be giving their all.

"Hopefully the fans will get behind the team the way they did at Tynecastle and it'll be a good chance for us to go through."

Jefferies insisted that the players have not been putting in any extra penalty practice this week. "It might go to that," he admitted, "but we'll be loking to win it in ninety minutes. The boys usually do some practice at the end of every training session, but it's nothing like doing it on the occasion. We've all seen players scoring thousands and thousands in training but miss on the big stage."

Killie fans wil hope that victory is secured before spot-kicks are required as Kilmarnock's record in penalty shoot-outs isn't encouraging. They became the first team ever to be knocked out of the Scottish Cup on penalties by Meadowbank and also lost the last time they were taken the full distance in a cup tie, by Airdrie in the CIS Cup.
