Jefferies out for revenge over Well

Jefferies is still rankled by the 5-0 thrashing Well handed out to his players the last time the two clubs met at Fir Park. And he insists it is payback time as he bids to guide Kilmarnock to their first SPL win of the season over Maurice Malpas' men. He said: "They gave us a right going over at Fir Park the last time so we have a bit of making up to do for that result. "They are a hard team to beat at home but we need to learn lessons from the last game there. "They got a decent result at the weekend against Dunfermline so it's not going to be the easiest of games. "But both teams like to get the ball down and play so it should be an entertaining game." Motherwell looked like being relegation fodder when they recorded that shock win over Kilmarnock back in September. But 16 points between themselves and the drop zone all but guarantees their safety this season and Jefferies has been impressed by their mettle. He added: "Motherwell have done well after starting the season badly. "They kept at it and Maurice didn't panic because he knows his players and he knows what they can do. "A lot of people predicted they would be involved in a relegation scrap but that hasn't been the case." Kilmarnock would be justified in heading into Tuesday's game still feeling a sense of injustice following their 2-1 defeat to Aberdeen on Saturday. Even Dons boss Jimmy Calderwood admitted his side were fortunate to take all three points from a game their opponents had dominated. Jefferies was, however, philosophical about the reverse, asking his players to make up for the disappointment against Motherwell instead. "You get games like that," he said. "It was a frustrating result and the breaks went Aberdeen's way. "But it has happened to other clubs and we have also won games that we probably shouldn't have won." Kilmarnock suffered a 5-1 defeat at the hands of Hibernian in the CIS Insurance Cup final in their last outing before facing the Dons. And Jefferies added: "I'd rather look at the bigger picture. "The players couldn't have given anymore and they played some really good stuff. "We controlled the game and the performance was good - the only thing we didn't do was stick the ball in the back of the net. "That wasn't like us because we normally score goals, so hopefully we will create a few chances and put that right tomorrow night."
