Kilmarnock loan signing Liam Fontaine hopes that his his short stay in Scotland will lead to a regular place in the Premiership with Fulham.

Speaking after an impressive debut against Celtic in Sunday's live televisd match, Fontaine admitted that he wasn't sure where he was heading when he jumped on Friday morning's red-eye shuttle from London. "I had heard of Kilmarnock, but I didn't know where it was. I keep in touch with the SPL because my dad's a big Celtic fan."

The nineteen year old has hardly had time to sit down since he first heard he was on the move. "I got a call at home from Chris Coleman on Thursday night asking if I fancied going on loan. I thought it would be somewhere in England but then he said Kilmarnock. I left at six o'clock on Friday morning and trained with the team. I haven't said goodbye to the Fulham lads yet. The gaffer asked if I was able to play and I was happy when I heard I would start."

It is fairly ironic that Fontaine's debut shold be against his father's heroes but Fontaine relished the challenge and is looking forward to completing his education. "I found it quite tough for my first game in the SPL. Hartson and Sutton are really experienced pros. The SPL is a good standard and I hope to become a more mature player and maybe get a start for Fulham next season."

Jim Jefferies was delighted with his new player. "What a game for hm to come into! He never gor intimidated and showed what a good temperament he's got. He's here to get some first team games. Fulham think he'd got a good future."
