Di Giacomo happy to repay faith

The forward's appearances in the top team have been erratic this season as he battled with a loss of form. But Jefferies opted to throw him into the first team for Saturday's visit of Dunfermline in the SPL. And the Rugby Park boss' decision paid off when Di Giacomo produced a man-of-the match performance and netted two goals to help Killie on their way to the emphatic victory. "Football is all about confidence and I have been a wee bit low on confidence recently," said Di Giacomo. "But the manager gave me a boost by playing me in this game. "I had been letting myself down in training a wee bit but the manager and Billy Brown (assistant manager) never gave up on me and I'm happy that I've repaid their faith in me." Di Giacomo's only gripe was being taken off in the second half because of his lack of match practice. He added: "I had a good chance to get a hat-trick so I was a wee bit disappointed when I came off. "But I suppose it was my first game in a while so it was a fair enough decision. "Even so, I let the manager know that I wasn't too pleased! "I just hope to do as well in next week's game." Confusion reigned over who actually netted the opener at Rugby Park. Gordon Greer has been credited with the goal but team-mate Garry Hay claims his corner swerved into the back of the net without making contact with anyone, while the Pars reckon Greig Shields knocked the ball into the back of his own net. That goal was cancelled out by Stevie Crawford but Di Giacomo and Colin Nish both helped themselves to a brace each as Killie romped to victory. And Di Giacomo insists it could have been a far more damaging scoreline for the Pars. He said: "We maybe took the foot off the pedal a bit and we had a few good chances to score more goals. "But we can't be too unhappy at winning the game 5-1."
